Hanifah: A Flowing Script for Creative Brands

There I was, staring at a blank brand board, trying to find the right visual voice for a small, independent skincare line. The client wanted something elegant but approachable—something that felt personal, not too formal. That’s when I pulled up Hanifah, a delicate, flowing and modern script font. It didn’t take long to realize this was the missing piece.

Visual Personality and Style

Hanifah has a soft, organic feel that makes it feel like it belongs in a world of handmade goods and artisanal experiences. Its curves are gentle, its strokes vary just enough to give it character without being too fussy. It’s not overly ornate, which means it can sit comfortably alongside more structured typefaces without clashing. The PUA encoding is a nice touch—it lets you access all the glyphs and swashes with ease, which is a relief when you’re trying to get the perfect look for a logo or packaging label.

The font feels modern, yet it carries a timeless quality. It’s not the kind of script that screams “vintage,” but it has that quiet sophistication that works well for brands aiming for a refined aesthetic. It’s versatile enough to work in both digital and print formats, from social media headers to product packaging.

Real-World Branding Applications

I tested Hanifah on a variety of design assets. On a logo concept, it gave the brand a sense of movement and fluidity that matched the client’s vision. When paired with a clean sans serif for the tagline, it created a balanced contrast that felt intentional and professional. On a packaging mockup, it added a touch of elegance without overwhelming the design. The swashes and ligatures helped elevate the overall look, making the brand feel more curated and thoughtful.

On a business card, Hanifah looked polished and readable, even at smaller sizes. It wasn’t too thin or too thick, which made it suitable for a wide range of applications. In a website header, it stood out as a strong, eye-catching element without being distracting. For social media graphics, it worked well as a headline font, adding personality to posts and stories.

Strengths and Limitations

One of Hanifah’s greatest strengths is its versatility. It can be used as a display font, a logo font, or even as an accent in a broader typography system. It’s especially effective when used in short phrases or headlines, where its flow and grace can shine. However, it’s not ideal for long blocks of text. At smaller sizes or in dense layouts, it can become difficult to read, especially in low-light environments or on screens with lower resolution.

It also isn’t the best choice for corporate or formal branding. While it’s sophisticated, it lacks the rigidity and clarity that many traditional businesses expect. For a boutique, a creative studio, or a lifestyle brand, though, it’s a perfect fit.

Font Pairing and Design Considerations

When pairing Hanifah with other fonts, I found that it works best with clean, minimal typefaces. A serif font like Playfair Display or a sans serif like Lato can create a nice balance. It also pairs well with handwritten fonts for a more organic feel, but care must be taken to avoid visual clutter.

If you’re using Hanifah in a larger design system, consider using it as a highlight rather than the main body text. It can serve as a decorative element, a subheading, or a logo font. Just make sure to test it in different sizes and contexts before finalizing your design.

Practical Tips for Testing Hanifah

Before using Hanifah in any client project, I recommend testing it in a variety of scenarios. Create a mockup of a product label, a website header, and a business card to see how it performs in different formats. Pay attention to how it looks in both light and dark modes, and test it at various sizes to ensure readability.

Also, check the font’s licensing terms carefully. Make sure it’s suitable for commercial use, especially if you’re planning to use it in client work, templates, or merchandise. Some fonts have restrictions on web use or resale, so it’s always good to double-check.

Overall, Hanifah is a great addition to any designer’s toolkit. Its delicate flow and modern appeal make it perfect for brands looking to convey warmth, creativity, and refinement. Whether you're working on a skincare line, a bakery, or a creative studio identity, Hanifah can help bring your vision to life with style and grace.
